Wen Bi Feng

Case Study

Ten years ago, Zhou was an assistant engineer with a lightning company in Hong Kong. We met by chance and he found out that I knew quite a bit about feng shui. His application for company housing has been approved and he wanted my advice in choosing the right house. Of the three locations, I chose one situated half way up the hill at Da Kang Avenue. The house here belonged to the Wood element. Mr. Zhou belongs to the Fire element. The Wood-Fire combination produces light and brightness.

I made an interesting observation. To the right of Zhou’s room and balcony was the wen bi feng in the form of a tall building. Money and promotions will come his way and his immediate future looks good on the whole. However, the wen bi feng can also work against him in that his career may come to a sudden halt and he may settle down in another country.

In less than three years, Zhou rose from assistant engineer to the head of engineering department in his company. His son was also doing extremely well in school. However, at the height of his career, his company was bought out by a major consortium. It soon gave rise to tension among fellow workers. At that time, his application to emigrate to Canada had just been approved, so he decided to move to Vancouver with his family. Bad luck befell him and for more than a year after he settled down in Vancouver, he was unable to find a suitable job. His son was encountering difficulties in school. When the future looked bleak for him, he got in touch with me in Vancouver through some friends.

Analysis

I looked at his house and knew what the problem was. The wen bi feng in front of his house is blocked by another building. No wonder he was having a bad streak of luck. I offered him advice on how to rectify the situation. His house was situated in a deep valley. His house belongs to the Earth element, while he belongs to the Fire element and was born in the year of the Dragon. In feng shui, this is known as “dried earth and dragon in captivity” (han tu qiu long) site. That explains why his career is not getting anywhere and his son was not doing well in school.

I spent many days trying to come up with a solution. The problem was how to “moisten” the Earth and yet, not extinguish the Fire. Then I discovered a transmitter (wen bi feng) a distance away from the house. So I placed a red carpet in his house in the Fire spot in the southern direction facing the transmitter. On top of the carpet, I put a clay vase to create the Fire-Earth combination to harmonize with the wen bi feng. As for “moistening” the Earth, I advised him to build a waterfall in the northern corner of his courtyard, where water could flow in a continuous stream down a pond. Lastly, the pine tree just outside the front door was chopped down to signify the release of the dragon from captivity. Three months later, Zhou found a high-paying job.
