Introduction to Feng Shui

How the Art of Feng Shui came about

We humans, living in this cosmic world, are full of questions about our existence. How is it that there are people who are born with a silver spoon in their mouth, while others have to bear with starvation and all kinds of sufferings?

According to ancient Chinese philosophy, a person’s life is affected by the date and time of birth (ba zi) and the orientations of the place he lives (feng shui). There is a quintessential Chinese saying that goes: first, destiny; second, luck; third, feng shui. The innate factors are destiny and luck. The non-innate factors are feng shui, philanthropy, and education. To unravel a person’s fortune requires a complex study of his date of birth, astrological sign, geographical location, and the Five Elements. Combined the above with the art of feng shui, one can accurately predict a person’s fate where life and death; wealth and poverty; and success and failure are concerned.

Since time immemorial, there have been numerous books written, which attempt to unravel life’s mysteries. Most of them are either plain, superficial, or simply too profound to digest. The 12 birth signs in Chinese Astrology is one of the ways of reading a person’s fortune.

Since there is more than one person born under the same sign, theoretically, it means they share the same destiny. Hence, this method of divination is deemed too superficial and quite unreliable. But if the place I stay has bad feng shui, destiny can be affected. Man’s destiny, what is in store for the person and the determining factor his or her fortune. Feng shui is a combination of non-innate environmental factors.

Living things grow for a reason and things happen for a cause. Just like in scientific research, there is always a theory governing every kind of phenomenon. Two people who are born under the same Chinese birth sign do not necessarily share the same fate. Similarly, the feng shui of a building produces different effects on two people of different ba zi living there. In short, people not born of the same date and time has dissimilar fates. The feng shui works differently on them too.
