In the year of the Pig last year, the Snake was "tsong Tai Siu" (in opposition to the Deity of the Year), where there were difficulties, obstacles and changes. In the year of the Rat, it is a good and a bad year for the Snake. Luckily, there are some stars that neutralize some of the bad. What this means is that initially, the Snake will encounter challenges and difficulties, but are subsequently overcome. Therefore, in the year of the Rat, the Snake needs to be mentally prepared to face these challenges and not lose hope and direction. The Snake must work hard, persevere and find solutions to problems in order to make a come back or even receive good results from the initial difficulties. The Snake needs to form good interpersonal relationships, ask more and learn more, to find people who can lend a helping hand. Therefore, the year of the Rat isnˇ¦t so bad for the Snake as long as he/she realizes that indeed there will be many truths and lies and is prepared to deal with them with confidence. To ensure greater success, the Snake must work extra hard to make up for shortcomings, as well as increase self-value and confidence. A problem for the Snake this year is lack of direction and confidence, with a tendency towards laziness and indecisiveness. Because of this indecision, the Snake will easily be swayed by otherˇ¦s advice, leading to bad decisions, spoiled plans, and financial loss. Furthermore, the Snake should not set overly high expectations or listen to the advice of so called friends, and rather, just do what he/she is responsible for, in order to avoid poor decision making and mistakes. Investments, especially in the first half of the year, must be avoided. Do not try novel things, for example, do not sign on to do a job task you have never performed before. Do not do if you are not familiar. If the Snake relies on others and listen to so called friend's and expert's advice, not carefully making decisions and coupled with bad luck, then he/she can easily fall prey to cons. As a result, what the Snake hopes to do and how things turn out are discrepant. However, if the Snake learns more, does more and tries harder, overcoming the difficulties in the first half of the year, the rest of the year holds a change in luck; this perseverance can lead to good results by fall. Though the first half of the year, the Snake should keep with status quo, but on the contrary, in the second half of the year after July, the Snake should take greater initiative to take a more active role in his/her work in particular decision making type of roles. Industries that will the Snake can do well in include journalism, advertising, acting, fashion, food, distributing, and retail. Though it will take some effort in the beginning, at very least, rewards come to those who put in the work. Once reputation comes, financial gains follow. But the problem for the Snake is arrogance and intolerance; therefore, it is important for the Snake to be more tolerant of others and swallow his/her pride or else money will come and then go. Working abroad will be better than working locally. But a word of caution going abroad is to not prolong stay in places of smoking, drinking and women, as not only can they lead to financial loss and relationship loss, the Snake may even suffer physical injury. The working Snake may be favored by superiors, but it is important for the Snake to work more and talk less, to avoid being noticed as being more capable than your boss, turning the good luck back to the bad luck. Because there will be a lot of gossip this year, it is best for the Snake to mind his/her own business to avoid good intentions turning into bad deeds. In the cases where there are arguments or disagreements, the tendency is for the Snake to end up being seen as the bad person. It would be wise for the Snake to share credit and rewards with his/her colleagues to gain support for greater long term benefits.
Financial luck is unstable this year, though not absent. Many times, what may appear as fortune is false. Changes may be great, making fortune difficult to grasp. Especially in the beginning of the year, no matter if it is money from a job or side money from investments, the money will be unstable and will come and go. To think that money comes easily when things are going well is an illusion; be cautious of greed leading to failure. Because this is a year where money comes and goes, unexpected expenses may come up, so it is important for the Snake to have a habit of saving money and to be able wisely spend money. To think that once money goes, it will easily come back again is an unhealthy misconception. The Snake should not be pursuing investments this year, nor should the Snake lend money to people or borrow money to invest, as unexpected circumstances may prevail, leading to severe financial constriction. With traveling abroad, the Snake should also be cautious of theft and loss of possession.
The young Snake will tend to be lazy this year. If the Snake does not work harder to overcome lack of motivation, then failure in examinations and school will ensue. Though the young Snake is lacking in luck for examinations, he/she must not cheat or else not only will it result in failure, it can have long term consequences that will serve as obstacles to future educational success of the young Snake.
Relationships for the Snake this year are not good. Arguments and disagreements can easily arise. A more frequent occurrence is a situation where the person the Snake likes does not like him or her back, or alternatively, the Snake will find it frustrating that someone likes him/her for a very long time but he/she does not like him/her back. Basically, it is a year of many illusions and false people where there are flowers which blossom, but no fruit is formed. The single Snake may be actively seeing someone, but should not be having high expectations of marriage, as there is a strong risk of a good friend being involved as a third party and disrupting the Snake's relationship; once the Snake has tried to remedy the relationship but fails, he/she should accept fate and move on. If the old one does not leave, then the new wouldn't come, so it is best for the Snake to emotionally heal and perhaps find someone even better. Or even placing more energy into career rather than relationships may give better returns. The married Snake may be involved in an extramarital affair where this person may initially enter his/her life as a helping friend, but things progress into an affair, resulting in family discord and indirect negative effects on career and reputation. The female Snake will need to be especially cautious of this.
There will be a lot of problems in health this year. Thought they are not major illnesses, they tend to be annoying, stubborn illnesses that just refuse to go away. It is important to seek medical attention to these small matters, but it is highly advisable to have second or third opinions regarding these illnesses, to avoid the risk of missed or misdiagnoses. Even seemingly minor illnesses of cold or flu-like symptoms may develop into or manifest as something more serious if not managed well. The Snake needs to be cautious of fire hazards and injury to the joints, especially in the spring. ??
